Fire Science and Public safety

Are you ready for a rewarding career in Public Safety? As one of the first Colleges to offer a Fire Science program, Lambton is your number one choice. Over the years, our Fire Science, Paramedic, and Criminal Justice programs continue to get bigger and better. The existing fire training school is currently undergoing extensive renovations to become a new Public Safety Centre of Excellence, ultimately bringing these programs together to create an integrated and joint learning experience, beginning in early 2011. The winning combination will ensure that students leaving Lambton are well equipped to handle critical emergency response careers and prepared to devotedly serve the public. The Centre will continue to be the home of the Industrial Fire School, serving the needs of corporations with specialized workforce training needs in emergency response.

Professional Accounting Practice

PROGRAM INFORMATION

This program enables students, from any discipline, to complete a graduate certificate in accounting in three semesters while completing the Level 3 academic requirement of the Certified General Accounting Association (CGA) program of professional studies.
Level 3 CGA is a recognized level of competence in the accounting industry offering competitive salaries and the opportunity to work in well-paid professional accounting positions. The program will begin in September and end in August. It will also be offered part-time over a longer period.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited post-secondary College or University Diploma or Degree program
- or –
Mature student with three to five years equivalent experience in an accounting/business setting at an appropriate level
Applicants who have credits from the CGA program for levels 1-3 courses will be eligible to apply for exemption for equivalent courses in the program.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Trained accountants of all designations are in high-demand and employers face fierce competition to recruit the best graduates. Graduates may find work in every area of business and accounting including the areas of receivables, payables, general accounting, financial statement and cost analysis, as well as IT accounting. Graduates occupy positions in all sizes of business, as well as in all areas of government and non-profit organizations.

Many of the following programs were some of the first programs ever offered at Lambton and as a result, the College has built strong partnerships with local, regional and national employers and continually works with members of the industry to ensure graduates are prepared for the current workforce. Students have the chance to work in state-of-the art labs and facilities including but not limited to: the Skilled Trades Training Centre, the Renovation Training House, the Sustainable Smart Home (to be completed by Winter 2011), Alternative Energy Labs and a variety of Instrumentation and Processing labs.

SCHOOL-COLLEGE-WORK INITIATIVE (SCWI)

Lambton College is taking a lead in developing SCWI programs. In the past five years, the variety and number of programs available through SCWI have grown in leaps and bounds.
During the 2009-2010 school year, Lambton welcomed over 1000 students through various SCWI programs. These students came from all over the province to participate in Dual Credits, Bridging the Gap Camps, School-Within-A-College courses and other activities.
